The Department works to be significantly different but better than existing ones in developing the human resource capacity in the marketing discipline and related ones.  This would be realized through the adoption of appropriate innovative strategies.

The Department of Marketing is one of the three Departments in the School of Business and Management Studies of Tamale Technical University. Since its inception in the year 2000, its core business has been to train middle level manpower in the Marketing discipline and related areas.  It is also required to undertake research in Marketing as well as enhance community development through social Marketing initiatives among others.

Achievements

The Department of Marketing has trained hundreds of scholars and many of whom are well placed on enviable jobs across the nation and beyond.  Besides, the Department has nurtured young scholars on internship and national service to appreciate the tenets of Marketing and Management.  This has earned them good placements on jobs including teaching.

Another area of achievement is a crop of students trained whose hallmark is discipline and this has earned them a lot of academic and sports laurels.  Our student association (PROMAGS) has distinguished itself in Academic debates and sports competitions.

Staff of Marketing Department

The department has a good mix of staff of diverse backgrounds in Business Studies and varying levels of academic and professional attainments.  Also at hand is an administrative staff who manages the front desk of the department.

Future Plans

1.   To reach out to renowned Departments of Marketing in the Universities to establish relationship which synergies could be drawn.  This could be in joint research, joint programmes, mentoring and access to higher degrees.

2.    Undertake outreach programmes to Senior High Schools, job places, on radio etc. to market the         Department.

3.      Undertake researches and contribute more to social and economic development.

4.      To run Bachelors and other degrees soon.

Other Activity:

Apart from academic programmes organized by the Department, extra curricula activities are also organized.  An annual socialization programme of the entire student body is one of such programmes.   Pool side sessions for swimming, Beauty pageants and orientation of the first years have been other activities undertaken.

Academic Programme:

The Department currently run the High National Diploma in Marketing as a tertiary programme.  Through this programme, the department trains middle level manpower for the nation’s public and private sector agencies.  The scholars turned out at our pride.  They, bu virtue of the training they go through, distinguish themselves on the jobs they are placed.  Many of the alumni of the department have progressed beyond the HND to achieve high degrees and professional qualifications.

Two non-tertiary programmes have recently been started in the department.  Thus, Diploma in Business Studies in Marketing and Purchasing and Supply.  With our current mandate, we are working on the curriculum on a Bachelor of administration Programme to be run jointly in the School of Business
