Tamale Technical University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointments as Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff.

Tamale Technical University is a public university in Ghana. It was established in 1951 as a Trades Training Centre and was subsequently elevated as Junior Technical Institute in 1960. In August, 1992, the institution was converted to a polytechnic following the promulgation of the PNDC Law 321 and later attained the status of a full-fledged university in 2018, through the Technical Universities (Amendment) Act, 2018 (Act 974).

The University is located in the capital city of the Northern Region of Ghana. Nestled in the Savannah Ecological Zone with all the amenities for raising of family, including affordable housing.

SECTION A: TEACHING STAFF
  1. Categories and Qualifications
    • Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer: Applicants must have a terminal degree (PhD) in a relevant subject area and must have attained the position of Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer from a recognized tertiary/research institution at the time of application. Applicants must show a strong research profile evidenced by peer-reviewed publication, presentation at academic conferences, published books/chapters, inventions, or evidence of applied research leading to community or industrial applications.
    • Lecturer: Applicants must have a terminal degree (PhD) in a relevant subject area. Post qualification experience in a Lecturer’s grade from a recognized tertiary/research institution will be an asset. Evidence of teaching and research experience will be valuable.
    • Applicants with strong demonstrated experience from a recognized tertiary/research institution with an M.Phil. or other thesis-based Master’s degree in a relevant subject area will be appointed at the Assistant Lecturer grade.
    • The candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level and to conduct applied research in the relevant area. Ability to develop and teach graduate level courses and to supervise graduate students will be an asset.
  2. Specific Areas for Teaching/Research
  3. The following specific subject areas are required of interested applicants:

    • Automotive Engineering Technology with specialisation in;
      • Internal Combustion Engines.
      • Electrical/Electronics.
      • Engineering Drawing Software (AUTO-CAD, Auto Desk-Inventor, etc.)
    • Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Welding and Fabrication Engineering.
    • Allied Health Sciences with specialisation in;
      • Medical Laboratory Technology.
      • Medical Imaging Technology
SECTION B: NON-TEACHING STAFF
  1. Principal Medical Officer
  2. The Principal Medical Officer shall be responsible for all health related matters of the University clinic, which shall include, but not limited to:

    • providing out-patients care to all clients in the University clinic and refer appropriately;
    • Providing emergency caring and refer appropriately;
    • Assessing and implement management plan for patients in the facility.
    • undertaking out-of-hours duties as specified as reuired;
    • performing surgical operations/clinical procedures within competency;
    • assisting Specialists in major surgical operation;
    • Appropriately referring patients beyond competency;
    • Providing support and information to patients / relatives as and when necessary;
    • Performing bedside laboratory investigations;
    • Conducting/participating in:
      • Ward rounds.
      • Clinical meetings.
      • Clinico-pathological conferences.
      • Journals’ clubs.
      • Morbidity/mortality meetings.
      • General staff meetings etc
    • Providing in-patient care to clients at the Hospital;
    • Accurately and legibly recording patients’ care and management packages; and
    • Perform any other duties that may be required from time to time by the University.
    Qualification and Experience

    The applicant must hold an MB ChB/BDS or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years working experience as a Senior Medical Officer (SMO).

    OR

    The applicant must have served as Senior Medical Officer with Masters Degree in a relevant field/ or with continuous Professional Training across a wide range of clinical and management issues.

  3. Assistant Pharmacist/ Pharmacist Intern
  4. The Assistant Pharmacist shall be responsible for operations and maintenance of the Pharmacy of the University clinic, which shall include, but not limited to:

    • Providing quality pharmaceutical care to clients in the University clinic in accordance with the Standards of Pharmaceutical Care and accompanying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Guidelines for Pharmaceutical Services;
    • Providing medicines information, advice and counselling services to patients/clients of the University clinic to enhance therapeutic outcomes;
    • Serving as Manager of a Pharmacy in a Clinical Department of the University clinic;
    • Ensuring the safe and secure storage and handling of medicines in the clinic;
    • Serving as an active member of the clinic Quality Assurance Team as appropriate;
    • Promoting the activities of Drugs and Therapeutic Committee (DTC) and Rational Use of Medicines (RUM) in the clinic;
    • Ensuring that good quality, safe, efficacious and affordable pharmaceutical products and devices are supplied to patients/clients;
    • Ensuring the efficient collection, storage, processing and utilization of data in pharmacy to inform management and clinical care decisions;
    • Contributing actively to the development of clinic policies and guidelines and ensure compliance to them;
    • Undertaking central intravenous addictives services in accordance with the level of care in the clinic; and
    • Performing any other duties that may be required from time to time by the University.
    Qualification and Experience

    The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and must be a Registered Pharmacist plus at least one (1) year internship.

  5. Senior Medical Laboratory Technician
  6. The Senior Medical Laboratory Technician shall be responsible for operations and maintenance of all laboratory equipment of the University clinic, which shall include, but not limited to:

    • Performing tests and procedures as laid down in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train others on the job;
    • Undertaking analytical tasks within tight turnaround times and supervise junior laboratory staff working under their supervision;
    • assisting in departmental stock control schemes:
      • Ensure adequate stocks of chemicals, reagents and consumables
      • keep stock records as required.
    • Accurately and safely using and carrying out routine maintenance and performance checks on equipment and report faults in the laboratory to Unit Supervisor.
    • Following prescribed procedures and exercise a personal duty of care in maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities in good order;
    • Using laboratory computer system to:
      • Input requests and match patient records as appropriate.
      • Input results and generate printed reports.
      • Generate worksheet (lists).
    • Carrying out appropriate tests to confirm the identity of micro-organisms;
    • Carrying out appropriate antimicrobial sensitivity tests;
    • Using a range of automated equipment and manual techniques.
    • Carrying out assays using appropriate analyzers and understand the significance and implications of the results obtained.
    • Carrying out appropriate quality checks as required and complete quality record sheets as required; and
    • Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by University.
    Qualification and Experience

    The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent.

    Or

    The applicant must hold a Technician Diploma/Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology or its equivalent with at least three (3) years’ working experience at the level of Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent working experience), plus evidence of continuing professional education

  7. Medical Assistants/Physician Assistant
  8. The Medical Assistants/Physician Assistants shall be responsible for operations and maintenance of all laboratory equipment of the University clinic, which shall include, but not limited to:

    • Assessing and prioritizing patients present at the clinic, according to their medical needs;
    • Undertaking confidential patient consultations consisting of history taking, assessment and diagnosis;
    • Initiating and implementing care plan for patients at the clinic;
    • Accurately and legibly recording patients’ care and management packages;
    • assisting in providing interventions in emergency surgical invasive procedures and administration of emergency therapies;
    • Assisting in the performance of minor surgical procedures including:
      • Incision of boils;
      • Suturing of wounds; and
      • Dressing of wounds, when necessary.
    • Participating in ward rounds, clinical meetings, morbidity/mortality meetings and general staff meetings;
    • Offering primary care to patients with mental health problems and referring them as appropriate; and
    • Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by University.
    Qualification and Experience

    The applicant must be a Registered Nurse (Diploma) plus Medical Assistant Qualification (In-depth Diploma) or its equivalent with at least one (1) year internship.

  9. Chief Security Officer
  10. The Chief Security Officer shall be responsible for the overall administration of the safety and security needs and services of the University community. These shall include, but not limited to:

    • Exercising control over all security personnel;
    • Ensuring discipline among security staff;
    • Supervising and training of staff;
    • keeping the security situation under constant review for the safety and protection of the entire University community; and
    • Advising Management of the security situation and logistic needs.
    • Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Registrar of the University.
    Qualifications and Experience

    Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or HND in a relevant subject area and must have served as a Principal Security Officer in the University or comparable grade in a similar institution/organization for at least six (6) years.

    Or

    Applicant must have served in the officer cadre in the Armed Forces, Police or any major security service and must have held security-related schedule(s) for at least fifteen (15) years. Applicant must have impeccable record of service

  11. Principal Security Officer
  12. The Principal Security Staff shall assist the Chief Security Officer in the administration of the Security Services of the University

    Qualifications and Experience

    Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or HND in a relevant subject area and must have served as a Senior Security Officer in the University or comparable grade in a similar institution/organization for at least five (5) years.

    Or

    The applicant must have served in the officer cadre in the Armed Forces, Police or any major security service and must have held security-related schedule(s) with at least fifteen (15) years’ experience. Applicant must have impeccable record of service.
