Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif

Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif is the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology at the Tamale Technical University. He is an Associate Professor in African Studies in the Languages and International Relations Department of the Tamale Technical University. Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif also represents convocation (Teaching) of the University on the Governing council of the University. Prior to his elevation to the Deanship position, he served in various capacities in the University. He is a member of the Anthropological society of North America. He is also an old student of Tamale Secondary School.

Education

Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon and the University of Bergen, Norway.  He also holds an MPhil in African Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon. In 2000, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (Major) from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

Work Experience

Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif has taught several courses within and outside the University. Some of the taught courses include; African Studies and Communication Skills, Business Communication, Research Methods at the under graduate and postgraduate levels at the Tamale Technical University and KNUST respectively.  He has also headed and served on several committees within the University. He was the Director of the Research Innovation and Conference Directorate of the University and Head of the Media and Communication Studies Department of the University. He also served on some committees which include; academic board, faculty board of the Faculty of Applied Arts, University Executive committee, University Appointments and Promotions Board among others all in the Tamale Technical University. His wide level of experience also earned him the opportunity to serve on some committees at the national level; he was a member of the search committee for Rector, Wa polytechnic in 2016, and member of committee of eminent scholars to form an apex body to coordinate research among tertiary institutions in Ghana in 2014.

Research Interest

Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif has over 20 publications in globally indexed journals. His areas of research are in Gender and childcare issues, Ethnographic Research in Africa, Media and Communication Studies and Communications skills. Prof. Adam Bawa Yussif has also published a book titled Water Vending in Tamale: Water scarcity and its Domestic Implications: A case study of Impacts on care; Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon in 2006. One of his articles has also been featured as a chapter in a book in 2012 titled, Childcare among water sellers in Tamale in Oppong et al. (eds.): childcare in a globalizing world perspectives from Ghana. Institute of Sociology, University of Bergen, Norway.
