Medical laboratory science is the backbone of modern medicine. It is a discipline that comprises of haematology, Medical Microbiology (Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology), Chemical Pathology, Histopathology, cytology, Immunology, Forensics, Toxicology and Molecular diagnostics. It deals with the analysis of specimens from humans and responsible for about 80% of clinical diagnosis, management, prognosis and research.

Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology four –year (8 semesters) is an undergraduate programme offered by the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, Tamale Technical University.

Entry requirements:

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants

Applicants must have obtained credits passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects for WASSCE applicants  (A-D) in six subjects for SSSCE applicants comprising the core subjects: Integrated Science, Mathematics and English plus any three (3) of these relevant electives: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

  • Mature ApplicantsMust be at least 25 years old with any legitimate documentary proof. Must have at least 2 years’ relevant Medical laboratory science working experience (A letter from employer is required).Passes in ‘O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE Elective Science [Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics (Further or Elective)] as well as credits in Core English and Mathematics. Must pass a selection interview to be conducted by the University.

Candidates with Certificate or Diploma in Medical laboratory science from a recognized health training institution, HND (in Medical laboratory science and in laboratory science) with a grade point of 2.0 and above and with a minimum of 3 years working experience in the medical laboratory setting and having passed an interview. Successful candidates will enter at Level 200 or 300.
