Tamale Technical University held its 5th Congregation Ceremony on the 28th April to award degrees to its graduating students. The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Al-Hassan Emil Abdulai, expressed gratitude to the government of Ghana, Commission for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (CTVET), Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC), and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for their continued support to the University. He also called on them to continue their support to help the University overcome its challenges.
Addressing the congregation, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abass Braimah announced that a total of 1,428 graduands have satisfied the requirements for awards of degrees in Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, Professional Diplomas, Diploma of Technology and Certificates in various disciplines. Among the Bachelor of Technology graduates, 19 achieved first class, 89 achieved second class upper division, 21 achieved second class lower division and 1 attained a passing grade. At the Higher National Diploma level, 34 achieved first class, 374 achieved second class upper division, 321 achieved second class lower division and 20 attained a passing grade. For students completing the Higher National Diploma in competency-based training mode, 36 were adjured competent with distinction, 39 were adjured competent with merit, and 37 were adjured competent. At the Diploma of Technology level, 7 achieved first class, 75 achieved second class upper division, 115 achieved second class lower division, and 4 attained a passing grade. At the Certificate level, 11 achieved first class, 153 achieved second class upper division, 185 achieved second class lower division and 25 attained a passing grade. For those completing their studies in the competency-based training mode, 1 was adjured competent with distinction, 24 were adjured competent with merit, 14 were adjured competent and 8 obtained a credit.
The Vice Chancellor, also expressed his appreciation to graduands and staff for their dedication and hard work. He also announced that the university would be introducing three new Bachelor of Technology programs in the Faculty of Allied Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Additionally, the university has obtained approval for two Master of Technology Programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Technology.
Advising the graduands, the Vice Chancellor reminded them that their certificates are just a means to an end and not an end in themselves. He encouraged them to tap into the experiences of their teachers and forbears to avoid the pitfalls that thwarted the efforts of many people. The Northern Regional Minister, the Sagnerigu Municipal Chief Executive, and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
