Freshers Guide

INTRODUCTION

This manual serves as a requisite guide for all freshers who accept the admission offer to Tamale Technical University.

1.0 REGISTRATION PROCESS

  1. Registration is mandatory for all students (freshers and continuing students at the beginning of every semester).
  2. Freshers’ registration is a serious exercise which the university expects every student to undertake as prescribed in your admission letter.
  3. You must pay the required minimum fee before you can register, which is 50% of the 2023/2024 academic year’s fees, details of which can be found in the fees schedule.

  Once the above requirements have been met, follow the steps below to register for the academic programme offered. Note that you will be required to undertake your actual course registration after Orientation (February 20th -23rd , 2024 at the ICT Auditorium).

Students are to report and start registration from January 5, 2024 with the following:

  1. Online registration is through the ROPART Platform
  2. You will need your Student Registration Number and Password for Online Registration.
  3. Copy of admission letter
  4.  Proof of payment of fees or pay in slip
  5. Log on to the students’ portal to register: app.tatu.edu.gh/portal from January 8th , 2024
  6. Submit printed online registration form to your department 

2.0 STUDENTS’ SERVICES, ADMISSIONS AND RECORDS UNIT

The Students’ Services and Records Unit is an administrative support unit in the Academic Affairs Directorate that is committed to providing excellent and responsive service to Students with the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.

3.0 PAYMENT OF FEES

Fees must be paid in Ghana Cedis. Your deposit slip should indicate your name and student ID number clearly written on the pay-in-slip. Your pay-in-slip will be required for registration.

4.0 ACCOMMODATION

4.1 Steps for Accommodation Registration Online –Freshers only

Note that this can only be done if:

A. You have paid the minimum required fees.

B. You have applied for and secured accommodation on campus.

C. You have paid the requisite accommodation fees in full at Ecobank

4.2 Accommodation for Local Students

  • Hostel Facilities are available for Local Students.
  • Rooms are furnished with beds, desks and chairs.
  • Students are required to provide for themselves linen, pillows and any other required item.
  •  kindly indicate your preference of accommodation
  • The Hostel Fee for: 4 IN – 0NE ROOM GH₵ 1000.00 and 6 SIX-IN ONE ROOM GH₵ 800.00

4.3 Accommodation for International Students

  • Hostel Facilities are available for International Students.
  • Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, chairs and wardrobes.
  • Students are required to provide for themselves linen, pillows and any other required item.
  • kindly indicate your preference of accommodation
  • The Hostel Fee for: (4-IN- 0NE) ROOM GH₵ 2,500.00 and (6-IN ONE) ROOM GH₵ 2000.00

5.0 ORIENTATION

International students would have a MANDATORY orientation separately. The orientation session for fresh international students would be announced in due course.

The university’s main orientation for all fresh students starts from February 20th -23rd , 2024 at the ICT Auditorium. Note that this is also mandatory for all fresh students. This exercise help’s freshmen to understand the Dos and Don’ts in the university. You will be taken through the following; the role of Academic Affairs Directorate, the Library, Quality Assurance, Finance, Examinations, Code of Dressing, Security, and the University Hospital etc.

6.0 STUDENTS` ID CARD

All students would be provided with an ID card to enable them write exams and also to serve as an identity in the university and must be taken seriously. Note: A Student without an ID card will not be allowed to write exams at all times.

7.0 MATRICULATION
Students are expected to attend a mandatory matriculation on February 24, 2024. This is an important event for all freshmen to be officially initiated as students` of TaTU. All fresh students must undertake Orientation, Registration and medical screening to satisfy them for matriculation.

8.0 TEACHING / EXAMINATION 

Theacademic Calendar can be obtained from the university website, SRC Secretariat, Faculties and Departments. Teaching begins on January 8, 2024. Examinations for the end of first semester, 2023/2024 will start on April 8, 2024 and end on April 30, 2024All Students are expected to keep themselves in readiness for Examinations. Consult the student handbook on examination matters.

9.0 TAMALE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The University Library and its staff are here to support your studies, providing you with access to information online, or printed. 

The University Library is much more than books. It offers places to study, and access to a range of support services. You can also access a wide range of e-books and electronic resources online.

Consult the Library staff to make a start in finding out how you may use the Library and access its resources and services.
