On tuesday 13th of September, the European Union Ambassador to Ghana and his delegation paid a working visit to the faculty and students of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) on campus of the University. Before the engagement with the Faculty and the Students, the delegation held a closed-door meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abass Braimah, and other top Management staff of the University in his office. The discussions centered on technical and vocational education and the commitment of the EU and its member states to commit more resources to enhance this particular area of education. The discussions also focused on security and unemployment in the northern regions and the need for stringent measures to be taken to help curb this menace. The Ambassador revealed that the delegation in the coming day is scheduled to hold a session on security and its related matters with key development partners in Tamale. He said the EU would subsequently pay more attention to the Northern Regions instead of focusing more on the south.
The session with the Faculty and students talked about four thematic areas in the EU that currently works in Ghana. The focus of the presentation was on the Erasmus + and the EU-Ghana pack skills. The presentations encouraged both faculty and students to take time to explore these opportunities. The Speakers also requested TaTU to take advantage of the EU and the government of Ghana’s commitment to TVET and source more funding to mount relevant technical and vocational degrees. The delegation pledged to return to TaTU for more sessions, especially on the Erasmus + programs.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abass Braimah expressed the University’s excitement, not just for the visit to the University but the provision of vital information to the university community. He pledged to follow up on these programs and challenged the faculty and students to individually explore this important information.
In attendance was the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Imoro Ibn Saeed. Deans, Directors, Head of Departments, Lecturers, and students.
The delegation was led by Ambassador H.E. Irchad Raazaly Anna, Marta Brignone, Program Officer, Pieter Smidt Van Gelder, head of the political section, and kudus, communication and visibility officer.
