Tamale Technical University sets the vehicle for change as it launches Centre for Equal Opportunity (CEEOP) on 12th October, 2022. The launch seeks to address gender issues in the context of a new vision of the 21st Century in which gender equality needs to be paid attention to. CEEOP seeks to eliminate any form of discrimination against gender. All genders deserve equal respect in decision in terms of making in social, cultural, economic, religion and environmental factors.
The Vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University, Professor Abass Braimah in his welcoming remarks stated that the university is focus on admitting more females to encourage gender equality. Women must be given the chance to be better version of themselves and own their worth and happiness in all angles, than what society portrays them to be.
Dr. Efua Mantey, a representative from University of Ghana emphasized on the fact that the term gender goes beyond “sex” it is an analytical tool for understanding equal positions of women and men. This is a necessary basis for development of strategies to redress these inequalities. She added that the social change needs to take a critical look at roles that have been perceive as that of males and females.
Prof Elias Sowley , the Vice Chancellor Of Dr Hilla Limann Technical University in his closing marks, reiterated that as a University, it seeks to demystifying some of these issues surrounding gender and disability. He further added that there is the need for lecturers to stop undermining students’ potentials as well as paying attentions to their needs in terms of teaching and learning to ensure productivity. He believes that no student is dull, sometimes paying attention to their disabilities will help in boosting their performance.
Acting Director of the Centre for Equal Opportunity, Dr. Adiza Sadik, expressed her gratitude to the committee members and everyone for making the launch a reality.
