TaTU PROMOTES ITS FIRST FEMALE PROFESSOR AND THREE OTHER FACULTY

The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University (TaTU), at its 5th Council meeting held on Friday, 16th December 2022, promoted its first female Associate Professor and three other Associate Professors. 

Professor Hajia Sadick Adiza of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management was among the four (4) other Associate Professors whose promotions were approved by the Governing Authority. The other three Associate Professors were; Ing. Professor Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ing. Associate Professor Abdul Manan Dauda of the Department of Building Technology, and Ing. Professor Issaka Zakaria of the Department of Agricultural Engineering. 

This recent promotion brings to a total of ten (10) Associate Professors and one full Professor who is the current Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Associate Professor (Hajia) Adiza Sadik served as a Senior Lecturer in the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at the University before being promoted to her current rank as an Associate Professor. She earned her Ph.D. in Hospitality Management from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. She travelled to the Republic of South Africa from 1999 to 2003 for her first and second degree at the Vaal University. She also has a professional teacher certificate in education from the University College of Winneba, Kumasi campus. She is a product of Accra Technical University and Navrongo Senior High School (Navasco).

Associate Professor (Hajia) Adiza Sadik is currently the acting Dean of the Institute of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages (IPIL). Other administrative positions she held in the past include; acting Dean of Applied Sciences and Technology for two years, Director of Institutional Collaborations from 2018 to 2020, and Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. She has chaired several Committee and a member of other ad-hoc Committees in the University.

She is a responsible and dedicated professional with a proven ability to teach, motivate, and direct students to concentrate on performance. Encouraging a positive attitude in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In her area of specialization, her unrelenting energy with staff and students and her working experience places her in a professionally unique position to appreciate the educational needs of her students, which informed her Ph.D. research topic. She investigated Emerging trends and influences in the Ghanaian hospitality industry, education, and employability. This led to the development of a model named the Ghanaian Hospitality Employability Enhancement Framework (The GHEEF). The model could be used to improve teaching and learning and make graduates employable. This model could be adapted and applied in any program to enhance graduate employability in Ghana. She has conducted various research works in the industry, including hospitality management sciences and food product development, and solved some challenges within the hospitality and tourism industry. This is complemented by her research interests in hospitality and tourism, consultancy, graduate employability, and how students learn.

With over 20 years of work experience in higher education, she has published in reputable journals and also worked with some renowned authors. She also has a wealth of experience in higher education curriculum development, embedding employability and entrepreneurship skills in HTM and related curricula. She is the architect and acting Director of a newly launched Center for Equal Opportunities (CeEOP) at Tamale Technical University.

She is equipped with robust human skills coupled with her technical skills, which involve the ability to work with people to understand and motivate them. She also has strong interpersonal and communication skills; she speaks and works well in three local languages and one international language. She has sound entrepreneurial, leadership and intra- and intergroup skills.

Further to academic activities, she has a background in consultancy for local hospitality and tourism-related businesses. Some of her career highlights include industry experience in the hospitality, travel, and tourism industry. Her specialties are Culinary Creativity and Innovation; Entrepreneurship; Food and Beverage Management; Food Safety; Product Planning, and Quality Improvement within the food and hospitality industry. Her research interest includes Hospitality and Tourism, Food Science, Food Technology and Food product development, entrepreneurship, and Gender-related areas. She is a member of the Institute of Hospitality (IH) (formerly HCIMA).
