It’s exciting to hear that Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has finally been awarded a new Astroturf by the Government of Ghana, funded by the World Bank under the SOCO project. This project has indeed confirmed the commitment of the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly and the government to support TaTU after several years of appeals and engagements with the Assembly and other like minded organizations to provide the University with infrastructure or any other facility that will enhance the relationship between the University and the community.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sagnarigu, Hon. Ahmed Yakubu, in a very brief ceremony handed over the project site to the contractors Hausa Destiny Ventures and B.B. Company Limited at the TaTU Sports Arena.
The project is estimated to cost One Million One hundred and Eighty Five Thousand Three Hundred and Four Cedi Ninety Four pesewas (GHS1, 185, 304, 94) and is expected to be completed within six (6) months.
As part of the project conditionality the Sagnarigu Municipality had signed an MOU with TaTU to ensure that both parties support the execution of this project to a success.
The MCE advised the contractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and meets the highest standards. He revealed that there shall be a phase two of the project after the first phase is completed.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Imoro Ibn Saeed, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor and Managemet, expressed gratitude to the Sagnarigu MCE and the Government for offering TaTU this project. He assured all stakeholders that the university will put the facility to good use and support in executing the project.
The handing over of the site was witnessed by the Registrar, Director of Works and Physical Development, Director of Public Affairs, staff of the Sports Department, the Consultant for the project and the top Management of the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly.
This project is expected to benefit not just the University community but the entirety of the local community, providing a sports facility that can be used for various activities. It’s a positive development for the region.
