Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has significantly expanded its academic offerings. From 2 Bachelor programmes in 2020, the University now boast of 38 Bachelors, 17 Masters, 21 Higher National Diploma, 13 Diploma of Technology, 6 Professional Diploma, and 25 Certificate programs. Despite some infrastructural challenges, TaTU has utilized internally generated funds to renovate key facilities, significantly improving the learning environment. This was revealed by Vice Chancellor Professor Abass Braimah at the sixth congregation ceremony of the University held at the four court of the engineering block of the University on 15th June,2024 for the 2022/2023 cohort.
In his address, the vice Chancellor encouraged the graduating class to embrace challenges with confidence, utilize their education to create jobs, and actively contribute to Ghana’s sustainable development. He urged graduates to remain involved with the Alumni Association and serve as role models for positive change.
In its efforts to promote teaching and learning in the University, Professor Braimah further stated, the University had some collaborations and partnerships with some local and international Institutions which have yielded mutual benefits such as equipment procurement, curriculum realignment and scholarship opportunities. Notably among these institutions are German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the Institute of Project Management Professionals Ghana (IPMP), and Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada.
The University graduated 1,428 students this year in various degrees and programmes. These includes 536 Bachelor of Technology graduates, where 35 achieved First Class honors, 296 secured Second Class Upper, and 130 obtained Second Class Lower. For students completing the Bachelor of Technology in the competency-based training, five students were adjudged competent with Distinction and 36 with Merit. Diploma graduates included nine First Class achievers, 75 with Second Class Upper, 102 with Second Class Lower, and six with a Passing grade. Certificate level graduates saw 17 First Class, 71 Second Class Upper, 106 Second Class Lower, and 42 Passing grades.
As Professor Braimah prepares to hand over leadership, he used the occasion to express his gratitude for the support he received during his tenure, highlighting the University’s progress over the past four years, and conveying optimism for its future. The ceremony concluded with the Vice-Chancellor thanking all attendees and reiterating his commitment to the continued success of Tamale Technical University.
The ceremony was graced by the Honourable Northern Regional Minister who was the special guest of honor, Chiefs, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
