The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University has promoted Dr. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin, to the rank of Associate Professor of Development Economics, effective from 2nd August, 2023. This was done at a Special Meeting of the Governing Council held on 11th October, 2024 at the Auditorium of the John Evans Attah Mills Block, where the recommendation of the University Appointments and Promotions Board was considered.
Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin, brings his 25 years of rich experience to support the strategic growth and development of the faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the university. He is an astute academic, with a straight-minded vision for progress. He is very ingenious and development-oriented. Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin has in-depth knowledge and experience in university governance and management, serving in various portfolios at Tamale Technical University and beyond throughout his career.
Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin was appointed to Tamale Technical University in September, 1999 as an Instructor. He became a Senior Lecturer (Non-PhD) in February 2015, after obtaining a Master of Philosophy qualification. Later in 2020, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer (PhD) upon obtaining a doctoral degree, a testament to his versatile personality. As a true son of the region, he has spent all his productive years serving the university in various capacities, which is worthy of praise. Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin is the current Head of the Department of Agribusiness. He was Director of Research, Conference and Innovations, Dean of International Programs and Institutional Linkages, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology where he served two consecutive terms of three years each. Other offices he served include, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Head of the Department of Statistics, Mathematics and Science, Departmental Course Coordinator, Departmental Examination Officer and Hall Warden. Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin is one of the best-serving and committed staff in the history of the university. He was appointed Chairman of the Grant Proposal Committee, Chairman of the Institutional Linkages Committee, Chairman of NCTE Academic Audit and Placement Committee, Chairman of the Transitional Committee for the conversion of the Polytechnic, and Chairman of the Friends of the University Committee. He also recorded membership of several important committees in the university including the Quality Assurance Committee, Staff Development Policy Review Committee and the Industrial Attachment Committee.
Prof. Abdulai Abdul-Mumin has mentored many young and upcoming scholars and has contributed immensely to the growth and development of many alumni of the university. By dint of hard work, he has published many refereed Journal papers whilst even providing consulting services to institutions and organisations outside the university. He serves as a peer reviewer to many Journals including the, African Journal of Agricultural Research and Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics and Sociology.
