On behalf of the entire staff and students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, it is my honour and privilege to welcome you to the Website of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Tamale Technical University, Tamale, Ghana.

About the Faculty of Agriculture

The new Faculty of Agriculture and Natural resources is one of the new faculties in Tamale Technical University. The faculty was carved out from the Faculty of Engineering in August, 2021 with three departments (viz. Sustainable, Natural Resources management and Agribusiness departments). The thrust of the faculty mainly, is the provision of opportunities to enhance and broaden the skills of students in agriculture and other stakeholders to boss the agriculture sector through improved agricultural productivity and sustainability.

Our Vision

To become a Centre of Excellence for the provision of career-focused and practical-oriented training to students and relevant stakeholders in crop and livestock production and postharvest technologies for the socio-economic development of Ghana.

Our Mission

To provide career-focused education and practical training at the tertiary level for agricultural practitioners by producing graduates with hands-on experience and entrepreneurial abilities to fill the human resource needs of the country.

The following are key areas that the faculty embarks to enhance teaching and learning of their programes:

  • We promote excellence in teaching and human resource development through longterm training leading to the award of various degrees and short courses that are demand-driven to improve dry land productivity.
  • We assist students to develop practical and innovative skills in production and postharvest technologies;
  • We provide students with feasible and practical skills on the marketing of agricultural products;
  • We provide industrial training to acquire hands-on experience through internships and field trips;
  • We inculcate into students the interest, skills of research and information dissemination through seminars, workshops and extension services
  • We inculcate into students the spirit of entrepreneurship in the field of agriculture and agribusiness; and
  • We maintain a good working relationship with lecturers, students and other staff for a good working environment

Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources

The FANR currently has 3 operational departments and plans are far advanced on bringing on board, two additional departments to bring the number to five departments. The functional departments and their respective programmes are:

  1. Department of sustainable agriculture
    a) 4 years BTech in sustainable agriculture
    b) HND in Tropical Agriculture
    c) Diploma in sustainable agriculture
    d) Certificate in Vegetable Production and Marketing
  2. Department of Natural Resource Management
    4 years BTech in Natural Resources Management (Programme coming soon)
  3. Department of Agribusiness
    4 years BTech in Agribusiness (Programme coming soon)
