The Planning Office is now a department in the Quality Assurance and Academic Planning Directorate (QAAPD). The Department plays a vital role in ensuring that accurate information or data on staff and students as well as infrastructure are readily available to ensure proper planning of the University
VISION OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
The vision of the Planning Department is to become the hub for technical and professional guidance to ensure that the University becomes globally reputable one in the training of world class TVET professionals.
MISSION OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
The mission of the Planning Department is to play a key role in facilitating:
- educational and institutional planning.
- policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and
- data collection, processing and storage to serve as information nerve-center of the University to enhance general planning of the University.

MANDATE OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
The Department is mandated to:
- develop and implement new and revised department policies and procedures necessary for providing better planning services within the University system.
- promote the service of the Department as the information nerve-centre of the University.
- provide statistical reports to the regulatory agencies such as Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), CTVET, COTVET etc. as and when requested.
- collect, analyze, interpret and maintain statistical and demographic data on staff, students and equipment and structures on continuous basis.
- coordinate the development of Strategic Plans of the University.
- monitor and evaluate Action Plans contained in the Strategic Plan as implementation progresses to ensure that the various milestones are attained.
- develop in consultation with management, the format for annual and other strategic reports from time to time.
- prepare composite time table to manage the use of lecture rooms, workshops and laboratories with class sizes and monitor use of same to promote efficiency and effectiveness.
- compute Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs) for each Department to guide the recruitment of faculty members in response to changes in students’ numbers.
- collate and harmonize the various action plans of units and departments.
- initiate, plan and execute planning related investigations and studies to inform policies.
- organize workshops/seminars for the University staff on issues relevant to the planning needs of the University.
- collaborates with the Budget Officer through the Budget Committee to ensure that resources are allocated according to the University’s planned activities.
- performs other related functions as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor or the Academic Board or the Governing Council.

MANAGEMENT UNITS/SECTIONS OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
The Planning Department has three (3) management units/sections:
(a) Data Collection, Statistical Analysis and Research Section.
(b) Timetabling and Educational Planning Section and
(c) Institutional Policy & Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section.
BRIEF FUNCTIONS OF THE MANAGEMENT UNITS/SECTIONS
Data Collection, Statistical Analysis and Research Section
This section of the Department addresses the following:
- Initiates, plans and executes institutional research to inform policy.
- Promotes the service of the Directorate as the information nerve-centre of the university.
- Provides statistical reports to the regulatory agencies such as GTEC, CTVET, COTVET etc. as and when requested.
- Collects, analyzes, interprets and maintains statistical and demographic data on staff, students, equipment and structures on continuous basis.
- Develops the format for annual and other strategic reports from time to time.
- Computes Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs) for each Department to guide the recruitment of Faculty members in response to changes in students’ numbers.
- Collates and analyzes information from various sectors of the university.
- Identifies research problems and prompt the Director of Planning on the need to carry out research to inform policy.
- Provides data to the Basic Statistics Committee to produce Congregation Brochures and other documents for the university.
- Establishes and maintains research database including storage and recovery protocol.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Planning from time to time.
Timetabling and Educational Planning Section
This section of the Department addresses the following:
- Prepares composite time table to manage the use of lecture rooms, workshops and laboratories with class sizes and monitor use of same to promote efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assists the Director of Planning in matters pertaining to educational planning and development of the university such as allocation of lecture halls for lectures among others.
- Conducts surveys and monitor activities that impact on educational planning adopted in the University in order to achieve its goal and objectives.
- Prepares progress report each semester to the Head of Planning on the state of lecture hall allocation and the way forward.
- Provides data-based information on lecture halls, workshops and laboratories to aid in educational planning when there are issues of concern.
- Undertakes education planning-related investigation to inform policy.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Planning from time to time.
Institutional Policy & Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section
This section of the Department addresses the following:
- Develop and implement new and revised department policies and procedures necessary for providing better planning services within the university system.
- Liaise with management to come out with the University strategic plan and coordinate the process.
- Monitor and evaluate Action Plans contained in the Strategic Plan as implementation progresses to ensure that the various milestones are attained.
- Collate and harmonize the various action plans of units and departments in the university.
- Collaborate with appropriate committee to periodically review the institution’s Strategic Plan.
- Initiate, plan and execute planning related investigations and studies to inform policies
- Collaborates with the Basic Statistics Committee to produce Congregation Brochures for the University
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Planning from time to time.
