The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University meritoriously promoted Dr. Aboko Akudugu to the rank of Associate Professor of Human Resource Management, effective from 7th December, 2023. The promotion was formalised on the recommendation of the University Appointments and Promotions Board, at a Special Governing Council Meeting held on 11th October, 2024 at the Auditorium of the John Evans Attah Mills Block,
Professor Aboko brings unparalleled expertise to the Faculty of Business, excelling in knowledge management, organisational behaviour, training and development, talent recruitment and management, and organisational development. His contributions have been instrumental in advancing the strength of the Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies. Renowned for his proactive approach, and exceptional team-building abilities, he is widely celebrated within the university community for his groundbreaking efforts in fostering inclusive management and ethical leadership.
Professor Aboko’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a PhD in Innovation Communication from the University for Development Studies, Tamale and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Halifax College, London. Additionally, he earned a professional teaching qualification from Gbewaah Training College, Pusiga, in 1995.
Since joining the university in 2009 as a Lecturer, Professor Aboko has steadily risen through the ranks, embodying dedication and excellence. His promotion to Senior Lecturer in 2015 followed a series of impactful, thought-provoking publications addressing pressing societal issues. Between 2009 and 2010, he served as Course Coordinator, later becoming Head of the Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies (2010–2012). From 2018 to 2020, as Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Planning, his innovative efforts drove substantial progress. Similarly, as a University Examinations Officer from 2020 to 2022, he navigated the complexities of examination management with outstanding resilience and effectiveness. He currently serves as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and the Head of the Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies, where he is leading efforts to develop PhD programmes for the department.
Professor Aboko has also played a pivotal role on numerous university boards and committees. As Chairman of the Academic Programmes Proposals Development Committee, he spearheaded the design of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the University and his department. His contributions extend to the Entity Tender Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, Examinations Board, Academic Board, Appointments and Promotion Board, Library Committee, Staff Development and Scholarships Committee, Executive Committee, and Faculty Board, where his leadership has been transformative.
Beyond administrative excellence, Professor Aboko is a devoted mentor, providing invaluable guidance to many students and colleagues. His supervision of numerous theses, dissertations, reviews of articles and research projects underscores his dedication to academic growth. He is a prolific scholar, having published extensively in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, and he serves as an external assessor for sister institutions, offering expert evaluations of promotion applications and programme proposals.
