On Thursday 4, May, 2023 the Vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University, Professor Abass Braimah, presented a proposal for the establishment of a Youth Entrepreneurial Development Centre to the Paramount Chief of the Tolon Traditional Area. The development-oriented chief, Tolon Naa Major (RtD) Sulemana Abubakari, requested the Vice Chancellor to support him with a proposal that will inform the establishment of the Youth Entrepreneurial Development Centre in the Tolon Traditional Area. To this end, the Vice Chancellor tasked the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor Abdul-Razak Abubakari and the Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim to develop the proposal. Through a desk study of previous governments interventions of youth development and the study of the Strategic Plan of the Tolon District Assembly as well as engagement of the significant stakeholders, a comprehensive proposal has therefore been written and submitted.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by Professor . Ibrahim Abdul Rauf, Dean of faculty of Engineering, Professor Abdul-Razak Abubakari, Dean of Faculty of Business, and Mr. Osman Mubarik Abu, Director of Public Affairs to present the proposal at the Tolon Naa’s palace. The document contains detailed plans and designs of the Youth Entrepreneurial Development Centre whose core focus will be to operate as a distinct youth empowerment centre that will roll out strategic programmes to address the debilitating unemployment challenge among the youth in the traditional area as well as aid in the diversification of the economic activities to enhance a sustained growth of the economy of the traditional area.
The paramount chief of the Tolon Traditional Area, Naa Major(RTD) Sulemana Abubakari, expressed his appreciation to the Vice Chancellor and his team for the swift response to his dream to establish a Youth Entrepreneurial Development Centre for his subjects. He promised to further open discussions with key development partners to secure funding to immediately execute the project. He encouraged the TaTU team to continue to establish community partnerships with traditional rulers and communities as a strategic drive of addressing their peculiar development challenges.
The Vice Chancellor assured the Chief of TaTU’s preparedness to support the implementation of the proposal.
