The Tamale Technical University has organized orientation for newly appointed Academic Deans, Heads of Department and Faculty Program Coordinators to equip them with strategic tools and leadership insights necessary to promote academic excellence and enhance administrative excellence in their respective units.
The two-day programme held from the 3rd to 4th September, 2025 at the ICT Auditorium, under the theme “Strategic Leadership for Academic Excellence and Administrative Efficiency”. The orientation covered a wide range of topics, including academic governance, financial management, human resource practices, and student affairs. Resource persons drawn from different units of the University highlighted policies and regulations that guide academic administration. The sessions also provided space for open discussions, allowing the new leaders to ask questions and share their expectations.
Opening the session, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bashiru Imoro Ibn Saeed, commended the appointees for their willingness to accept the respective positions to champion development of the University.
According to him, the respective heads play critical role in both the academic and administrative sector in shaping the academic and administrative direction of the University. He emphasized the need for teamwork, accountability, and innovation in the discharge of their new responsibilities.
The Registrar of TaTU, Shi-Naa Alhaji Yakubu Iddrisu said, the orientation was not only meant to equip the officers with the right tools for effective management but also to strengthen collaboration between Faculties and the Central Administration. “Leadership in higher education requires balancing academic excellence with administrative efficiency”, he added.
The Director of Human Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Aziz called on the appointees to serve with dedication, uphold integrity, and contribute to the growth of the University.
The Newly appointed Academic Leaders expressed appreciation to management of the University for providing such an opportunity to learn and connect with colleagues. They described the training as insightful and pledged that the lessons learnt would help guide their work in creating a supportive environment for both staff and students.
