Thursday, 11th May 2023, two communities in the Northern Region received two Compressed Earth Block Machines from the Germany Ambassador, H.E. Daniel Krull through Tamale Technical University (TaTU)
These beneficiary communities were Bognayili and Zugu in the Kumbungu District.
The two machines presented were designed and fabricated by Engr. Tarlutu Ibrahim of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tamale Technical University (TaTU).
Brief separate ceremonies were held in these communities to mark the implementation of phase I of an initiative between TaTU and the Embassy of Germany in Accra.
The beneficiaries took turns to demonstrate and exhibit the skills and knowledge learned during the training.
They pledged to continue to utilize them to achieve the desired vision of the project.
The project concept was birthed by TaTU with support and funding from the Embassy of Germany.
The focus of the project is to improve rural housing development within the Northern Regions, using local materials and artisans in the locality. The project comprises the provision of Compressed Earth Machines and a comprehensive two-month hands-on-desk skills training for the youth within the beneficiary communities.
The Chief of Zugu, Naa Professor Yakubu Natogmah, received the machine and thanked the Germany Government for the project. He also expressed his gratitude to TaTU for the partnership and for reaching out to its surrounding communities. He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the support and desist from deviant behaviors.
He also encouraged them to put their skills and machine into good use so that the Zuugu Community would become the cardinal area for manufacturing Compressed Blocks. He challenged TaTU to introduce programs in solar technologies and appealed to the Germany Embassy to consider supporting this new program.
H.E. Daniel Krull, on his part, commended TaTU, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abass Braimah, and his team for the swift implementation of the project. He challenged the beneficiaries to put into use these machines for the benefit of the entire community. He said his outfit is encouraged by the performance of TaTU and promised to strengthen the relationship between his Embassy and the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abass Braimah, gave a brief narration of the project and how he was excited that TaTU’s vision of partnering with Key developmental agencies to support rural development in the North has come to fruition.
He thanked the Ambassador for his commitment to the project and promised to continue to initiate more community-based programs for further collaborations.
Present to witness the presentations were Professor Ibrahim Abdul Rauf, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Osman Mubarik Abu, Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Dok Yen David Mbabil, Head of the Department, Building Technology and also the Project Manager, and Engr. Ibrahim Taalutu, Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
