Introduction:

Professor Bashiru I. Ibn Saeed, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Tamale Technical University is an academician who is well known for his scholarship and dedication to education. Professor Bashiru I. Ibn Saeed, who has been in the academic world for over a decade, is a leading visionary, mentor of many young scholars and champion of teaching and learning that are student-centered. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to teaching and learning development in Ghana. This profile will examine profile of Professor Bashiru I. Ibn Saeed

Academic Excellence and Research:

Prof. Bashiru is a renowned scholar in the field of statistics, with a focus on statistical capacity development and health care informatics. He was promoted to the rank of professor on August 19, 2021, and sets the enviable mark of being the first professor (terminal rank) in Tamale Technical University. His research focuses on statistical modeling and health issues. Some of his published articles include; Modelling Adversarial Risk in Big Data, Adversarial Risk Analysis Structural Equation Model Estimates of Big Data, Modeling of Monthly Meteorological Time Series, and Functional Time Series Analysis of Land Surface Temperature, Impact of socioeconomic status and medical conditions on health and healthcare utilization among aging Ghanaians.

Leadership and Strategic Vision:

By championing initiatives that bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application, Prof Bashiru has forged strong partnerships and collaborations with industry leaders and organizations such as internship programs, joint research projects, and guest lectures by industry experts. Prof Bashiru has worked with faculties of the University to update and align academic programs with industry needs by incorporating real-world case studies, projects, and practical experiences into the curriculum.

Through the Quality Assurance Directorate, he has implemented feedback mechanisms to continuously assess the relevance and quality of academic programs based on industry input. His leadership has led to the introduction of relevant Master’s and Bachelor degree programs that meet current industry demands. As the Pro VC in charge of academics, TaTU, for the first time, is going to have their premier M-Tech programs in Artificial Intelligence, Event, Recreation and Leisure Management, and Data Science run in the 2024 academic year.

Global Engagement:

Goal 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals emphasizes the importance of fostering global partnerships to promote sustainable development across various domains, including technology, capacity-building, trade, and education. Professor Bashiru, a prominent figure in TaTU’s academic leadership, has successfully established strategic alliances with prestigious universities, research institutions, and influential business leaders worldwide, recognizing TaTU’s status as a leading global higher education institution. These alliances not only strengthen TaTU’s global leadership in education but also significantly contribute to the broader goal of advancing global sustainable development. Additionally, Professor Bashiru’s representation of TaTU at international events, such as the International Statistical Institute Conferences, demonstrates the university’s active engagement with the global community, particularly in areas related to statistical research and education, aligning closely with the principles and objectives of Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Professor Bashiru is fiercely committed to creating a learning environment that is inclusive and equitable. The Tamale Technical University has plans to launch significant efforts focusing on diversity in order to increase the participation of people from underrepresented backgrounds among the faculty, student body, and staff. This initiative will be spear-headed by his leadership and in collaboration with management.

Public Policy Advocacy:

Professor Bashiru served on the Technical Advisory Committee of the Ghana Census of Agriculture, August 2017–2019, providing expert insights to government bodies and international organizations. His engagement in policy discussions underscores TaTU’s commitment to influencing public discourse and driving positive change on a global scale.

Community Engagement:

Prof. Bashiru has led community outreach projects that link TaTU’s knowledge with nearby communities, in keeping with TaTU’s dedication to encouraging civic engagement. These programs range from seminars and workshops tackling urgent societal issues. This is done through laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (TaTU Data Science Lab).

Innovation and Technological Integration:

Professor Bashiru is aware of how technology in education has the potential to revolutionize education. He has been in charge of integrating cutting-edge digital tools into TaTU’s teaching and research methods in order to improve student learning and advance cutting-edge research methodologies.

Professor Bashiru is a highly accomplished author who has made significant contributions to the academic discourse in statistics. His work includes numerous articles and a book that have been published and recognized within the field. However, his influence extends beyond academia. Professor Bashiru’s thought leadership has had a profound impact on policy debates and has served as an inspiration for the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Achievements:

  • Appointed first board chairman of Kpasenkpe Senior High STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) model school.
  • Panel Member/ Chair, GTEC Team; Panel Member on the GTEC team in assessing undergraduate and postgraduate programs (terminal) at various universities in the country and performs other professional activities conducted by the regulatory body.
  • External Examiner and Supervisor to terminal degree candidates in statistical sciences for both Ghana and beyond.
  • Secured funding for project (2017-2021) with the Bonn- Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences from the German Academic Exchange Services and the German Ministry of Education.
  • Reviewer of reputable journals including Journal of Applied Statistics, Taylor & Francis Group, Journal of Statistics and Mathematical Sciences, SAGE Open, British Journal of Mathematics & Computer Science, and BMC Obesity.
  • An elected member of International Statistical Institute (ISI).
