Biography

Ing. Prof. Zakaria Issaka is an Associate Professor of Soil and Water Engineering with the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the Tamale Technical University. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering with over 10 years of experience in university education.

Starting his career as a Lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Engineering in November, 2012, he has subsequently occupied positions of Hall Tutor, Foundation HoD of Water and Environmental Engineering, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Director of Quality Assurance and Academic Planning, and Dean of the Faculty of Creative Art and Technology.

With over fifty (50) refereed journal publications, Prof. Issaka’s research and practice focus heavily on water management, irrigation systems, and watershed hydrology. His research output reflects active academic collaboration with various national and international colleagues and researchers.

Prof. Issaka has been instrumental in national discussions concerning water security and sustainable development in Ghana, particularly regarding the slow progress toward SDG 6 targets. He has also led consultancy and community engagement projects that link the university to communities and industry partners in northern Ghana. He has supervised numerous projects and actively mentors young engineers and technicians.

Prof. Issaka is deeply committed to the core mandate of technical universities: “Training for Work, Research for Development.” His vision is to position TaTU’s Faculty of Engineering as a Center of Excellence for appropriate technology in West Africa.
