TaTU GOVERNING COUNCIL APPROVES NEW PROMOTIONS

The Governing Council at the 9th Governing Council meeting held on 8th December 2023 accepted the recommendations of the University Appointment and Promotion Board to promote two academic and five administrative staff to the rank of Associate Professors and Deputy Registrars, respectively. The individuals who have been promoted are Associate Professor Ahmed Tijani Bawah and Associate Professor Salifu Azeko Tahiru in the academic category, and Mr. Abdul- Jalil Bawah  Yakubu, Mr.Haruna  Imoro, Mr. Banayem  Robert, Mr. Abubakari Najemudeen, and Hajia Sulemana Falila in the non-academic category.

On behalf of the Management of the University, the Vice-Chancellor extends heartfelt congratulations to these hardworking staff members for achieving this significant milestone in their careers. Such promotions are a testament to their dedication and contributions to the university community. This recognition reflects their commitment to excellence in their respective roles.

The university community is undoubtedly proud of their accomplishments, and the Vice-Chancellor’s congratulatory message underscores the significance of their achievements. It is a moment of celebration for both the promoted individuals and the university as a whole. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AHMED TIJANI BAWAH (PhD)

Associate Professor Ahmed Tijani Bawah

Ahmed Tijani Bawah is an Associate Professor of Chemical Pathology and the Dean of the faculty of Allied Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tamale Technical University, Tamale, Ghana. He is also a Senior Lecturer of Chemical Pathology at the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology. Prior to this, he was the Registration and Examination officer, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana. He previously worked at the Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health, Ghana for over a decade. Prof. Bawah is a fellow of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists and a registered Allied Health Professional. He is a fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (FWAPCMLS) and a consultant Chemical Pathologist with so many years working experience.

Prof. Bawah holds a PhD (Chemical Pathology) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, MPhil (Chemical Pathology) and Bachelor of Science (Medical laboratory Science) from the University of Ghana. He obtained a certificate and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the School of Medical Laboratory Technology, Korle-Bu and University of Ghana Medical School respectively. Prof. Bawah attended Tamale Senior High School and Asalia English and Arabic Primary School in Tamale and Yendi respectively.

Prof. Bawah has thought for many years and helped developed curricula for training of Medical Laboratory professionals in both undergraduate and post graduate programmes. He served as the chairman of the committee that developed the MLS.D curriculum for the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho. He practiced as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in various health facilities in the Greater Accra region for over a decade. During this period, he rose from the rank of Technical Officer Grade 2 to a Principal Biomedical Laboratory Scientist before he resigned from the Ghana Health Service in 2013.

Prof. Bawah’s area of research is metabolic complications during pregnancy with emphasis on using biochemical markers in the prediction of obstetric outcome. He has also done some research in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney diseases. He has publications on lipid profile of Ghanaian women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Hypogonadism in Ghanaian men with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Adipokine deregulations in Ghanaian women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Preeclampsia among others. Other publications are on the effect of Tobacco smoking on semen quality, sexual dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity as well as diabetes and chronic kidney diseases among homeless people in Ghana. Prof. Bawah has 47 publications in peer reviewed journals with over 364 citations.

ING. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AZEKO SALIFU TAHIRU (PhD)

Associate Professor Azeko Salifu

Ing. Prof. Azeko, Salifu Tahiru is a scholar in Materials Science and Engineering with a specialty in Structural and Multifunctional Materials as well as Materials Selection and Design for different applications in the Materials, Mechanical and Civil Engineering industries. He obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering in 2015. He then had his Postdoctoral Research Studies in the US and France between 2017-2019. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Tamale Technical University, Tamale, Ghana.

He is a Professional Member of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science, Ghana Institution of Engineering (Ghie), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana, and a Corporate Member of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE). Ing. Prof. Azeko held several positions in Tamale Technical University, including: Vice Dean, Faculty of Engineering/Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment; Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering; Head of Department, Water and Environmental Engineering; as well as Head of the Amatrol Laboratory. He is also an External Moderator/Examiner, Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), External Assessor, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as well as a National Short-Term Scholar for Curriculum Development in Industrial Mechanics and Agro-Machinery Manufacturing.

His research explores innovation designs to produce green composites that are cost effective and environmentally friendly for Materials, Mechanical and Civil Engineering applications. He has a total of at least thirty-five (35) research works that have been published in reputable journals across the world. Within the last two years, Ing. Prof. Azeko has published over eight (8) research articles in several reputable journals (including Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, ASCE, among others) across the world that are indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI), Scopus, and other reputable databases, with good impact factors, citations and wide readability. He has over 270 citations and an outstanding wider readability of 56,000 (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Salifu-Azeko). Ing. Prof. Azeko research area span across many fields, including Materials Engineering, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering as well as mathematical modeling among others. Lastly, he is currently serving as a guest editor in a special issue in the Journal of Environmental Science and Pollution Research.

Ing. Prof. Azeko research works have resulted in efficient and practical innovation for applications in the research community in Ghana and beyond.

MR. ABDUL-JALIL BAWA YAKUBU-DEPUTY REGISTRAR

Mr. Abdul Jalil Bawah

Mr. Abdul- Jalil was appointed into the University in 2009 as a Senior Administrative Assistant. He is currently the Faculty Officer at the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment. He has served the University in various capacities serving as Secretaries to committees, Committee Member and Committee Chairman.  He has played a pivotal role in drafting and approving most of the University Policy Documents. He has also served in different units and sections in the University including; head of admissions, head, Centre for skills, Business Development and Entrepreneurship, Quality Assurance Manager, Administrator TaTU Hospital, Faculty Officer at the Faculty of Business, Head of Registry Registrar’s Office, and Administrative Officer in the Human Resource Directorate.

He has served the University Governing Council for Eight (8) years being the first Non-teaching Convocation Representative and the Former Chairman of Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG).

He holds a Master of Arts (Human Resource Management) from University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Education (Social Sciences) also from the University of Cape Coast. Associate member. He is a member of the Institue of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP), student, I C A (GH), and student, C I M A.

MR. ROBERT BANAYEM- DEPUTY REGISTRAR

Mr. Robert Banayem

He was appointed a Senior Administrative Assistant in July 2008 at the erstwhile Tamale Polytechnic. He was promoted to the grade of Assistant Registrar after obtaining Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprises Development from the University of Cape Coast.

After serving on the grade of Assistant Registrar for four (4) years, he was promoted to Senior Assistant Registrar in 2018 and served on that grade for four (4) years.

When he became a Senior Member, Mr. Banayem served in various capacities between 2013 to date. He was the officer in charge of admissions from 2013 to 2021. Again he was appointed as a Faculty Officer for the Faculty of Engineering from 2021 to date.

Mr. Banayem also holds a second Master’s of Science Degree in Organizational Development from the University for Development Studies, Tamale and the Centre for Community and Organizational Development (CCOD).

Mr. Robert commenced his educational jouney at Nyohani Presby Primary School in 1979 in Tamale. He continued at primary B and Suguru middle school when his parents moved to settle in Walewale.

He gained admission into the Navarongo Secondary School for his Ordinary Level Certificate between 1987 and 1992. After his ‘O’ Levels, he proceeded to the Gbewaa Teacher Training College where he obtained a Post-Secondary Teacher Certificate between 1992 and 1995.

After successful completion of the Post Secondary Teachers Programme, he was posted to teach at the Widnaba Primary School in the BAWKU West District in the Upper East Region.

He gained admission into the University of Cape Coast and offered Bachelor of Management Studies between 2004 and 2007.

On the professional front, Mr. Banayem is an Organizational Development Practitioner and a consultant in Small Enterprise Development.

As a professional teacher, he is a part-time tutor at the University of Cape Coast College for Distance Education (CODE) in Tamale.

Mr. Banayem has publications traversing leadership and Human resource management

His research interest is centered on leadership and Human Resource Management.

MR. HARUNA IMORO – DEPUTY REGISTRAR

Mr. Harunna Imoro

Mr Haruna Imoro is currently the Faculty Officer of Faculty of Applied Arts of the Tamale Technical University. He was recruited in 2012 as an Assistant Registrar in charge of Quality Assurance. He assisted the Quality Assurance Director from 2012 to 2018. He was promoted to a Senior Assistant Registrar in 2018. Within the same year in 2018 he was appointed as the Administrator of the Tamale Technical University Hospital (TaTU Hospital). He worked as the Senior Assistant Registrar in-charge of hospital administration from 2018 to 2021. As the TaTU Hospital administrator, he identified certain critical positions in the Hospital that needed immediate attention to be filled such as Pharmacist, Medical laboratory scientist, NHIS claims processing officer, Nurses and a substantive Medical Director. Mr. Imoro worked together with the University Management and Ghana Health Service to secure the services of these essential health professionals and as a result the TaTU Hospital was upgraded to a Primary Hospital in 2021. In 2022, Mr Imoro was transferred to the faculty of applied Arts to serve as the faculty officer. Among his duties was to assist the Dean of the faculty to perform administrative duties to ensure effective teaching and learning. At the faculty of applied Arts, He serves as the secretary to the faculty board, appointment and promotions committee as well as present minutes and quarterly reports to the Vice Chancellor of the University. As part of his community service, he organized a blood donation exercise in collaboration with the blood Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and engaged the University committee to donate blood to augment the blood bank of the Tamale Teaching Hospital. In addition, he organized outreach programmes that enabled the hospital staff to conduct health screening to assist the surrounding communities of the University which fostered good relationship among the University community. Mr Imoro’s area of interest and specialization is research and administration in Public Administration and Total Quality Management.

 He holds a Master’s Degree in Health Services Planning and Management which he obtained from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2006. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities Degree from University of Ghana, Legon in 2001. He also possesses certificates in proficiency in leadership as well as conflict resolution and management. As part of his duties, he assisted the director to design and implement quality assurance measures to ensure standards in teaching and learning. Mr. Imoro has undertaken a number of research and published in publication journals. The results of these research have gone a long way to improve activities of the University. Among some of his research work includes; “The effect of leadership on employee engagement in higher education sector in Ghana: A case study of Tamale Technical University” which was published in 2022. “Students’ perception of quality of education in Tamale Technical University” which was published in 2022. “Customers service and its impact on clients’ attraction and retention in Tamale Technical University Hospital” which was published in 2021.

HAJIA SULEMANA FALILA – DEPUTY REGISTRAR

Hajia Sulemana Falila

Hajia Falila Sulemana was employed on July 1, 2008 as an Administrative Assistant. She was promoted to Senior Administrative Assistant on November 1, 2009; Assistant Registrar on January 14, 2014; Senior Assistant Registrar on March 1, 2018; and currently Deputy Registrar.

She is a Chartered Professional Administrator   (2019) and a Chartered Management Consultant (2020) with the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants, Ghana. She also holds an MBA in Human Resources Management with the KNUST; a Bachelor’s degree in Management Studies with the University of Cape Coast, and an HND  in Secretaryship and Management Studies from TaTU.

Since her employment in TaTU she served in the Academic Affairs Directorate from 2008 to 2014; Human Resources Directorate from 2014 to 2021; and currently in the Faculty Officer at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology from 2021 to date.

Hajia Falila was in charge of Staff Development and Welfare in the HR Directorate until she was transferred as Faculty Officer in charge of the FAST.

MR. ABUBAKARI NAJIMUDEEN – DEPUTY REGISTRAR

Mr. Abubakari Najimudeen

Mr. Najimudeen was appointed into Tamale Technical University in 2012 as a Senior Administrative Assistant at the Registry. Since then, he has made remarkable strides, ascending to the positions of Assistant Registrar on January 14, 2014, and then Senior Assistant Registrar on September 14, 2018.

Throughout his tenure, he has exhibited exceptional skills, overseeing pivotal roles such as Sectional Head responsible for Student Services within the Academic Affairs Directorate, Faculty Officer for the Faculty of Applied Arts, and spearheading the University’s Accreditation and Reaccreditation programs within the Quality Assurance Directorate. He also managed the Student Records Section before assuming his current role as the Faculty Officer for the Graduate School.

He served as the repertoire for the Tamale Technical University International Conference held in 2016 at the Mordent City Hotel, Tamale. Additionally, he was the initial contact person for the Canadian Non-Governmental Organization (WEE-NORTH), aimed at empowering women with nontraditional skills, and significantly contributed to the project’s success, benefiting both the institution and the women involved.

He has served in various committees and has contributed significantly in establishing some Bachelor’s and Postgraduate degrees mounted in the University.

 Academically, Najimudeen holds a Master of Arts in Business Planning and Microfinance Management from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in 2013, and a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Development Studies from the same UDS, achieved in 2008. He studied at Ghana Secondary School (GHANASCO), 2003 batch.  He is pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Human Resource Strategy at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (to be certified in March 2024)
