Biography

The Guidance & Counselling Directorate serves as a vital support system for students and staff of Tamale Technical University. Established to promote holistic development, the Directorate provides academic, personal, and career counselling services that enhance student success and institutional growth.

🎯 Mandate and Core Functions

  • Counselling Services: Individual and group sessions addressing academic, personal, and psychosocial concerns.
  • Career Guidance: Training, workshops, and employer partnerships to prepare students for the world of work.
  • Advisory Role: Strategic input to Management on student welfare and institutional policy.
  • Student Adjustment Support: Helping students adapt to university life and overcome challenges.
  • Capacity Building: Seminars and training for staff and students on resilience, inclusivity, and leadership.

  • Successfully handled over 2,700 student counselling cases between 2024–2026.
  • Trained more than 2,200 students in career readiness and employability skills.
  • Conducted 30+ workshops and seminars with over 300 staff participants.
  • Pioneered digital counselling platforms to expand accessibility.
  • Contributed to TaTU’s Strategic Plan (2025–2030) and initiated the Career Skills Development Center.
  • Championed inclusive education initiatives, including disability advocacy and scholarship facilitation.

The Directorate is currently led by Dr. Kingsley Agyei Sarpong, Acting Director and Deputy Registrar (Guidance & Counselling). Dr. Agyei Sarpong holds a PhD in Guidance and Counselling and is recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to educational leadership, counselling practice, and institutional policy development.
