Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is a continuously evolving subject. As technology has advanced, so have the challenges facing the modern engineer. EEE is a subject that naturally partners with other disciplines to open whole new engineering opportunities. The EEE Department of Tamale Technical University (formerly known as Tamale Polytechnic) prepares students in this field using state-of-the-art information and computer-based technologies.

The HND program is designed to achieve a balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through exploration. The courses offered by the department provide a comprehensive foundation in the core topics of EEE coupled with an area of specialization relevant to emerging engineering challenges. The curriculum has been designed to create professional electrical and electronic engineers, who can serve in the fields of core electrical engineering, information and communication systems, and other related fields

The Professional Diploma on the other hand focuses on the wayside Electricals and Electronics Technicians who have not had any formal education in their field of expertise. It lays the requisite foundation for them to bridge the gap between the theory and the practice they are into.

With the Intermediate, Basic School (JHS) leavers who wish to learn a trade or build their professional career are the prime target. Here the students have the option of studying Electrical installation or Electronics and communications (TV and Radio). Interestingly, the students today have the opportunity to study the basic core subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) which makes their certificate comparable to their counterparts in the various Senior High Schools. This recent development was not the case in times past therefore making this program more and more attractive with the practical flavor introduced at this level.

Career Opportunities

On employability, graduates of the university consistently appear as the first choice of employers. Studying EEE will lead to potential careers in the areas of Research & Development (R&D), design, systems analysis, installation and commissioning, process engineering, control and maintenance, manufacturing, quality assurance and testing, information technology, programming, consultancy, management and software engineering, just to mention a few.

Programmes in the Department
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Professional Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
